I came across this site recently which has some interesting facts and statistics about Compiz.
http://www.ohloh.net/projects/3659
Over the past twelve months, 30 developers contributed new code to Compiz.
This is one of the largest open-source teams in the world, and is in the top 2% of all project teams on Ohloh
For comparison
Over the past twelve months, 29 developers contributed new code to Apache HTTP Server
This made me laugh
Across all C/C++ projects on Ohloh, 20% of all source code lines are comments. For Compiz, this figure is only 4%.
This lack of comments puts Compiz among the lowest 10% of all C/C++ projects on Ohloh.
A high number of comments might indicate that the code is well-documented and organized, and could be a sign of a helpful and disciplined development team.
You know what they say about statistics though...
