Hi,

I recently bought a 4G eeePC and I am trying to get Compiz
configured just right.

I still have the original Xandros on it and I got Compiz installed OK.
I love the cube effect.
I want to try the Ring Switcher but I can't get it configured.
I seem to be missing the Compiz Settings Manager and I can't find it or install it with Synaptic.

I Googled a bit and found you can change things with gconf-editor.
Can anyone tell me if I can enable Ring Switcher with gconf-editor?

If you can tell me how to install the Settings Manager that would be
great too. I'm relatively new to Linux so be gentle.

Many Thanks,
Mike.

How did you install Compiz?

I really can't offer much more than emotional support as I don't use either an Eee or Xandros but... Xandros is Debian based so that means there are deb's somewhere. Anyway - Do you know what version of Compiz you installed? Did you also install Compiz-Fusion? I ask because Fusion offers the extra packages beyond the base Compiz, of which Ring Switcher is a member. Read this to see the difference: http://wiki.compiz-fusion.org/CompizFusionVsCompiz.

Actually, the first place you might find better answers is the eeeuser forum: http://forum.eeeuser.com

The version of C-F you need to install depends on the version of Compiz you have installed. Hopefully wherever you got it also has a repo for C-F. All you would be looking for are something along the lines of Compiz Main, Extra and Unsupported. Otherwise you can build from source or try the Ubuntu PPA repositories for a complete but older build of 0.7.2 Compiz + Compiz Fusion:

http://ppa.launchpad.net/compiz/ubuntu/

Not sure which dist you should use or if you should use these at all.
