View Full Version : 3d windows shouldn't resize the cube

The new 3d windows plugin sucks. Because the cube is smaller, there is space between the cube and the reflection which doesn't look good and windows are bigger than a side of the cube, which is also bad. It also slows the PC down.
I rather see windows get through reflection (that didn't actually bother me) than this small weird flying cube and lag.

If someone's got too much time, he could make some physics and make windows flatten when on the bottom side.

I second this request! It really annoys me when the cube/cylinder/sphere "floats" if I have 3d windows enabled.

It does not slow your PC down, that claim doesn't even make sense. The reason windows are bigger than a side of the cube is so that the whole system actually works. Do you remember how things were with Beryl? Egad, that absolutely did not work...

Did you think about windows going off of the screen? Before there was an unrealistic zoom, and after the cube would zoom in, the windows would lag behind. This way, it is less buggy (old version for compiz was really buggy), and the transitions are much smoother.

The current implementation shrinks the cube and has window break off at certain intervals.

Also if a window was positioned at the very bottom, it would go through the reflection, which, imho, would be bad

Have you put a window off the bottom of the screen with Cube Transformation Sphere yet? It's a really interesting (and mind boggling) effect.

It's not a bug, it's a hidden feature!

And one that needs to be added as a real feature once the kinks get worked out.

I could ignore the window through reflection problem, but I can't ignore the floating cube. That looks really bad imo.
The possible better solution would be to make windows stick to the cube when they touch the reflection.
Check the attachment
Best and most fun solution would be to add some physics and the window would be pressed to the ground by the cube, that would look awesome especially with desktop cylinder. :)
