I'm sorry to say I'm just posting a big bug report type thing... I just couldn't specify enough to make it worth searching on the Bugzilla. Sorry.

I admit it, I was warned. I am not intending this to be a complaint. Hopefully that intent came to fruition.

This is how it started.

I got installing using this...thing.
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=643485&highlight=git
For various reasons, I didn't get it installed until a few days later.
I immediately experienced problems. Many problems. My greatest annoyence was found when I changed the cube rotation shortcut to the middle mouse button. Instead of rotating it only when I middle-click on the desktop, it does it EVERYWHERE. If you happen to use any web browser, specifically Firefox, I believe you understand why I find this annoying. If you don't...well, I'm not going to go into that.

I'm sorry that I didn't keep it installed for the sake of the community and for the sake of Compiz Fusion itself, but, hey, I need to have a working desktop! For this reason, my list of bugs is not complete.

I understand how much confusion and annoyance it can cause CF developers not to know what to look for because of me. Sorry.

On the bright side...

I loved the new shortcut setting setup thing. My only suggestion would be to allow only activating the shortcut on the desktop or (in the case of CTRL+ALT+Button 1) anywhere.

Thanks for this wonderful project!

You shouldn't be setting the cube rotation shortcut to middle click - that's done in the viewport switcher so it only happens on the desktop.

Um. Thanks. I just realized another problem. Even when I'm using metacity, after I installed Compiz Fusion from git, several oddities occured.

1. I am unable to click on some links on any webpage. For instance, I can't move my mouse to the page two button of any page and click it. It just doesn't do anything.

2. The scrollbar on Firefox doesn't work in much the same way that the above did. When I click, it doesn't move, it doesn't do anything.

3. Tabs seem to do the exact same thing all the time. Terribly annoying.

I'm going to re-git that stuff and try it again.

Most of those issues are just Firefox. The scrollbar won't work if you're all the way to the right because Compiz steals the rightmost and leftmost edge of your screen for detecting window movement events (it also does the top and bottom with wall) I believe someone was going to fix this by using a different method. If Firefox doesn't seem to be doing anything, unmaximize and then remaximize it, it'll sometimes stop redrawing itself.

I'm afraid the latter can't be true. Compiz isn't even on, and most of the plugins aren't installed, and the problems still persist.

Nuts. I think I was wrong there, but there are two issues still.

1. Whenever I boot, there's 1/2 a chance it will first, come up for logging in, graphically, then, after I log in, nothing is visible. Disgusting.

2. My computer seems to have taken up a practice of just STOPPING. When I have music playing, it keeps playing. The mouse also keeps mobile, but otherwise, the desktop is unresponsive.

(I'm now posting this on the Ubuntu forums because I realize these issues are less likely to be Compiz Fusion.)

Thanks,

I don't really understand what you mean here. If you mean that there is a slight lag between compiz starting and the desktop appearing then this is normal. I'm not sure how to start compiz so that it starts before GNOME

False Screengrab. These are really annoying. Please try to isolate the problem by disabling plugins until it goes away. Then tell us what plugins is causing the problem. For what it's worth, you can try zapping the X Server or ssh'ing in via a remote machine to killall gdm. Of course, you loose all your work, but then again, this is unstable software ;-)

Problem resolved. Compiz is still unstable, but nowhere near as frequently as it used to be. Thanks!
