That's what the most recent KDE Commit-Digest claims: that viewport support in KDE4 is now "complete". It's actually pretty good. Windows can be sent to other viewports by right-clicking on their taskbar buttons, and the Show only tasks from the current desktop option works without any modification. ^_^ Oh, and window thumbnails are now shown correctly on every desktop in the pager applet, not just on the current desktop.
Unfortunately, the To Desktop->All Desktops option doesn't seem to work at all yet. For some reason, the pager applet still turns into one big desktop when Compiz starts, so they'll hopefully be taking a look at that too... Oh, and trying to change the Number of Desktops from within the pager applet will actually create the kind of "desktop" that Compiz doesn't like, even if the Number of Desktops is set to 1 within ccsm. Maybe KDE's setting works too well. :p
The panel can be made smaller now. ;) It's no longer stuck in that awful 48-pixels-tall mode.
Anyway. PROGRESS! :D KDE's taskbar and pager applets have needed to be patched ever since Compiz came into existence, so it's nice to know that the problem is finally going away for good with upcoming releases of KDE4.
