Hi to all!
I just have one question: how do you make the pictures you choose to appear on cube caps be transparent? The only way I can get some transparency on the caps is by applying a small picture to the caps, unscaled, and the background remains transparent. The transparency setting in the cube caps gui seems to affect only the background transparency and colors on the caps, and not the images. When the images are fully scaled to the cube cap surface, I only get some translucency on them, but no transparency.Thanks.
I'm adding: I could do that very easily in Beryl, but the option doesn't seem to exist in Compiz Fusion.
I just found that thread: does that mean that texture transparency for the cube caps is not implemented yet?

you can disable drawing the caps altogether in the cupecaps plugin, just disable the drawing of them :D

Proper handling of all sorts of transparency was added to the git master version of Cube Caps, but has not filtered down into the 0.6.0 branch yet. I'm not sure if it will.
(It fixes cube cap textures syncing with cube transparency and the solid color will use its own alpha combined with the cube alpha, so you can easily set clear cube caps by enabling the Cube Caps plugin and setting the background to be transparent, and if you want, you can put a semi transparent image on top of that)

OK thank you very much for this answer. Now I know what's going on, and eventually how to get the expected effect. I would try the git version, but I think these repositories are only available for *Ubuntu, and I'm on PCLinuxOS.

Ubuntu Gutsy doesn't have a Compiz Fusion from git repository either. :p The most actively maintained git repository I know of is the one for openSuSE 10.3, if the problem really bothers you enough that you want to switch distros. ;)
In the meantime, you can manually edit /usr/share/compiz/fusioncap.png and /usr/share/compiz/compizcap.png (or your custom cubecap images) to make them translucent. Just open the image in The GIMP, lower the opacity of the only layer in the image, then save and export the image by merging visible layers when it asks you what to do.
