Hello. I've never connected to IRC network before (rofl) and would like to try to stop being a lame at this point. I think that having some programs in terminal if quite funny and i like that (i mean "links" for example, and browsing the internet in terminal) and i found a good irc client running in terminal:

http://irssi.org/

The thing is I am a little lost with the configuration. In the "Documentation" section it is said:

To new Irssi users (not to new IRC users ..)

And that is true. I get a little lost with this HOW-TO. Can you tell me how to get just basic functons, like connect to an IRC server with password, and register your own nickname? I want nothing more. Is there anything more i would have to know before droppping into iRC world? :P

I'm a big fan of http://f0rked.com/articles/irssi. It's not exactly a new-to-irc guide, but it should be enough to get you running, and to give you some perspective to help with the official irssi documentation. It covers running irssi in the 'screen' multiplexer (the only way to fly :)). The 'advanced windowlist' script covered in that guide is also a nice addition to your irssi client.
