What does anyone reckon to this? Is there any other such thing out there that anyone's come across?

Based on Puppy Linux (http://www.puppylinux.org), an already established full-featured distro, wNOP --as its called-- comes with Compiz-Fusion and the necessary video drivers included, it automatically sets up your card (if it supports CF).

Here it is: wNOP-v0.2.iso (http://puppylinux.ca/puppyfiles/wNOP/wNOP-v0.2.iso) (md5.txt (http://puppylinux.ca/puppyfiles/wNOP/wNOP-v0.2.iso.md5.txt)).

I've given it a little web home too at www.tombh.co.uk/CF/about.php

(EDIT: website link updated, thanks Radon)

Is there a way to load it from a usb stick?

Download this ISO, extract and copy these files to the USB flash drive:
initrd.gz
pup_301.sfs
vmlinuz
zdrv_301.sfs

And run syslinux (http://syslinux.zytor.com/) to make it bootable.

Exactly :)

I've never tried booting from USB but I know a lot of people do. Of course the BIOS has to support USB-booting and have it enabled. If wow's method doesn't work there are other approaches to USB installation also. Oh and don't forget that unless Puppy is installed on a hard disk the OS will, if you have enough, run entirely from RAM!

Click here for a custom Google Puppy Linux search (http://wellminded.com/puppy/pupsearch.html).

Yeah and Puppy has NTFS-3g v1.417. I remember that older Puppies might sometimes mount NTFS partitions read-only but I haven't had such problems with the version (Puppy 3.01) that wNOP is based on.

'wow' forgot to mention that he is the pioneer that first got Compiz-Fusion (and Beryl I think?) compiled and working in Puppy. Woohoo! :)
