Heh,

So I was over at my friends place the other day and he just bought a new Dell XPS laptop. Really nice laptop actually, Core 2 Duo 2.3 GHz, 16 inch screen, NVIDIA GeForce 8400M - the lot.

So anyways, it runs Vista and I'm trying to fix a problem (Typical). I've used Vista before, and I'm used to the (Super) Windows-Tab (TM) key to switch between windows. So I'm switching between them, and he is completely WOW'd by it.

So anyways, he knows I run Linux, and after seeing some of the very few Vista effects, he starts going on about how Vista pwns Linux.

We were waiting for something load, so I fired up my laptop (which is at least 2-3 years older than his new one) in openSUSE and started playing around with Compiz Fusion at full speed. wPwned!

Had any stories of people who have been completely bebaffled by the amazing effects that Compiz Fusion provides? Post them here!

I do a lot of presentations in University and outside and I always get oohs and aahs everytime I spin the cube or do Expose and Switcher between programs. I use a Nintendo Wii remote (bluetooth) for presentations, and it works really well with the Annotate plugin or Fire Paint.

After presentations I leave my laptop on so that people can explore and ask about Linux. Those poor sods are stuck with the Microsoft mentality. I know of people who "upgrade" from Vista to XP :)

But things are changing here in Poland, sometimes at the beginning of presentations I ask people whether they personally use opensource programs, and most people at least use Firefox. We also have OpenOffice installed on every PC in school and my request to upgrade a few PC's to Ubuntu is being looked at. Hoping for 8.04 LTS which will be stable and have CF by default.

I used to help a relative with Web design for his business, and one time when he came over to discuss requirements, I had only recently learned about Beryl. He paused whenever he saw something on my screen zoom, rotate, glow, or otherwise act fancy. XD Vista had not yet been unleashed unto the world, and this guy wasn't a computer enthusiast, so he had never seen anything like it before. He started poking my screen emphatically--a little too emphatically ^^;--asking how I did everything.

The last time my father came over for a visit, he asked for a Vista install CD before he left. He said the sole reason he wanted it was to have eye candy comparable to what my Compiz Fusion-equipped computer was doing. ^^; His computer's not anywhere near equipped to run Vista, though... I'm ready for him to accept my offer to remotely install and configure Linux for him at any time.

Hi maciekwpl! I support the WiOO program, but am not directly affeliated with it, at least for now. Just last week I made 2 donations; to KDE4 (http://www.kde.org/support/support.php) and WiOO (http://www.fwioo.pl/wesprzyj-nas/wioo-w-szkole.html)

Anyways, I'm in Uni now and doing a statistics course that needed a Windows program called STSS. I installed it through Wine and it was successful, but fails to load, the internet confirms this. I had to get a copy of WinXP through my Uni and just finished installing it through VirtualBox :)

I'm using the Screensaver (http://gitweb.compiz-fusion.org/?p=users/pafy/screensaver;a=summary) plugin. Having the window where the 5 year old WindowsXP is installing flying around my laptop's screen in 3D is the best feeling ever! You guys rock! :D
