View Full Version : compiz don't load effects and emerald either

i've installed the necessary according to this
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Compiz_Fusion
and i have emerald and emerald-themes
i edited my xorg.conf and it seems ok
i used beryl on my PC with Archlinux and a graphic card Nvidia Fx5200 and it worked very well
but with compiz i get nothing
fusion-icon don't load
running compiz --replace from console don't load effects, and if i type
top it shows me the process compiz running
if i add emerald --replace % the there is not emerald border
help me please...

Try running
compiz --replace ccp in a terminal.
If it doesn't work, post the output here.

when i run
compiz --replace ccp
gnome lost their panels and no command could i run
the only i can do is move the mouse and see the wallpaper
what can i do?
how can i see the output?

one doubt
when i run
compiz --replace
i don't see messages
but in other distros i do
why is that?
i don't have a way to look my errors, because the console throws nothing

Have you checked ccsm to ensure that at least the Window Decoration, Resize Window, and Move Window plugins are enabled?

The reason Arch Linux doesn't print the kind of console output you see in other distributions is because Arch doesn't default to starting compiz-manager instead of the compiz binary when you run /usr/bin/compiz. Arch's way is consistent with the way Compiz Fusion's official source packages are distributed.

You can install the compiz-manager package from AUR (or is it in the community repository too?), then run compiz-manager & on a console to see the kind of output that you'd see in other distributions.

That's weird. Are you sure you pasted the complete console output in your previous post? Cutting off after "Checking for texture_from_pixmap" is definitely not normal.

Also, did you check whether the plugins I mentioned above were enabled?

i don't know what is going on...
i even did a
pacman -S compiz
and installed all
my nvidia card was working ok with beryl, no problem at all
but this compiz-fusion just doesn't want to start
i'm very close to get back to WindowsXP...
it was a joke

yea
the lines
"Checking for texture_from_pixmap"
from remains all time and no effects load or nothing more i see
i can wait one hour or more, and it will be the same line
with fusion-icon is something like that
but instead of "Checking for texture_from_pixmap", appears gnome session detected and never appears other line

Try running glxinfo in a console window and see if it freezes before it returns your prompt. Please post as much output as you receive before it stops coming.

I don't think it will make a difference, but to be sure, try running it once before starting Compiz (that's what compiz-manager does), then again after Compiz starts (but I thought your problem was that Compiz is not starting normally?)

Hmm. So far, so good. That output is as complete as what I get here. Does glxinfo return your prompt after it finishes running, or does it just stop there and force you to Ctrl+C it to see your prompt again?

Also, what do you see when you run this command?
glxinfo | grep GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap -c
Does that return your prompt when it's finished?

That's really confusing. :/ glxinfo's output looks perfect, grep's output looks perfect, but something is hanging after the end of the output. What can it be? Have you been seeing any other commands that seem to hang for no reason at the end of the output?

I'm not sure if this will tell us anything we don't already know, but please try:
LIBGL_DEBUG=debug glxinfo

Can glxinfo be killed (i.e. your prompt returned to you) if you open a new tab and run this command while glxinfo is frozen in the other tab?

i also ran killall glxinfo
but the tab with the first command didn't change at all
what a weird problem i have...
my xorg.conf is ok
i've installed everything i needed
but i just can't make it work

Please try that again, but using killall -2 glxinfo instead. If that still doesn't return your prompt, try killall -9 glxinfo.

i'm forced to close the tab, there is no way to access to the tab in wich i ran glxinfo

Okay... So what I was going to suggest, running glxinfo in the background and killing it after one second, won't work either. I suppose you could continue executing the script without bothering to kill glxinfo, but then your system will be spammed with who knows how many glxinfo processes that never die. :/

I'm honestly not sure what can be done about this issue...

i was solved
i don't know how, but today i ran
compiz-manager
and it load flawless
i midifued a lot of things, some of them i don't remember
but the thing is it started, and now i'm enjoying it
