I had this mini epiphany today whilst watching an episode of House. There was this huge wide angle shot of the hallway with all sorts of people and windows and paintings and things, and a large portion of the floor. I noticed that whilst the floor was very shiny the reflection was slightly blurred and I realised that this would make for an excellent modification to the various Compiz plugins that use reflections, such as the shift switcher, expo and cube reflection.
I think it would bring an added sense of, well... realism to the desktop, giving it a more real-world feel, as well as looking even prettier. Would each plugin need to be modified separately, or is there a global method for rendering reflections? Does anyone else feel that this would be worthwhile? Would it be easy to do? I know that the current window blurring plugins cause lots of trouble and don't work most of the time...
