how to restore all windows from panel (as opposed to show desktop)

when "show desktop" is pressed all windows minimize to panel and then pressed again and all windows appear again on the screen. Is this possible to do this latest trick with already minimized windows as in "Show all windows in an un-minimized state on the screen?"

There's probably something in dbus that can do it. I'm at a Windows machine at work right now so I can't say for certian, but I wonder if you can identify a flag the WM KDE/Gnome) throw for a minimized window you can dbus the show desktop on these items.
