Hi.
Is it true that Intel Graphics Accelerator X3100 isn't supported by Compiz Fusion?
I'm going to get a DELL laptop that uses Intel X3100 so your help is highly appreciated.
Thanks.

It's not a matter of compiz-fusion supporting the X3100. It's really whether or not the X3100 has 3D drivers that support all the necessary extensions. While I've never tried it personally, it's my impression that all the intel GPUs now have 3D drivers which support AIGLX and Composite. Where did you hear that the X3100 wouldn't work?

All over the web...
Some say that water effect won't work, other say blur isn't working and other say it won't work at all.
How could I know this DELL laptop's Intel X3100 has those 3D drivers?
Thanks.

Here's some information on what effects work with intel cards:

As for the drivers, I'm nearly 100% certain that they will support compiz (with the limitations listed in that thread, of course).

Hi,
Is the Intel X3100 a good competitor to an nVidia 7000M ?
I'm getting a laptop but the nvidia ones have a white-ish keyboard that I don't really like and the ones with black keyboard have Intel X3100... will this degrade CPU performance by not being a GPU as the nvidia?
Maybe I am getting it all wrong?
Thanks in advance.

My missus has just got a laptop with the X3100 card.
It does work with fusion but I noticed a couple of problems.
When rotating the cube or dragging wobbly windows around, their is quite a bit of tearing. Also, blur doesn't work.
I'm currently looking at xorg.conf options to see if I can improve things.
In all other apsects it runs fine and all other effects and animations are fast and smooth and I would say at about the same level as the Nvidia 7600GS in my desktop.

The intel drivers can't handle blur. In fact, none of the open source drivers can at the moment.
