View Full Version : Vacuum as minimize animation?

I'd like to see the vacuum animation added to the list of minimize animations... for that matter, why isn't it?
(If we can't do that) How about being able to disable the waves in magic lamp... that's the kind of effect I would like to see for minimizing.

The reason why Vacuum and Magic Lamp were split into 2 separate effects is because there were legal concerns about the possibility of Magic Lamp being too close to Apple's genie minimise effect. Vacuum is exactly the same as a Magic Lamp effect with max waves set to 0.
There is a guide on another forum (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=557491) for modifying ccsm and the Animations plugin to accept a magic_lamp_max_waves setting of 0.

Bah, can't we set the default to 3 or whatever and allow people to break a copyright/patent on their own volition?
Anyways, thanks. that worked great.

The legitimacy of the legal concern has been argued (http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/showthread.php?t=2983#post21661), but it seems that the evidence was lost.

I suppose one of the compiz devs could contact Apple? Anyways... I don't see how enabling the 0 waves effect would break a patent, as long as it isn't the default behavior (like I said before, let people break a patent on their own terms, don't break it for them--this is how MP3 (and other) support is set up in most modern Linux distros)
But I digress, could we at least add it into the configure options to automatically patch that with zero instead of 3? The hex-edit is a bit hackish... :(
And anyway, the guide really did work, so I'm not really going to complain too loudly until I get some political evidence to back myself up. Thanx for the guide!
And even at that, if there was some legal concern (and I use the words lightly), I would think that we could at least enable it and see if we get any flak from Apple--they already ripped off some ideas of ours anyways...

And at least let us that live in countries without software patents not have to suffer the consequences of flawed legislation!

you can
all you have to do is already be compiling compiz from source, and just modify the source code before you compile so that you can get this.
(I think there's already an explanation of how to do that somewhere on the forum, do a forum search and you should find it eventually :D)
