View Full Version : Black screen after switching to VT

I am running compiz 0.36 on gentoo, with a nvidia card, using vesafb

If I switch to a virtual console (Ctrl-Alt-F1), and then back to compiz, I get a black screen, with only my mouse cursor showing.

The cursor appears to be interacting with windows, as I have managed to close a window by randomly clicking (by looking in the task list at my command line), but I can't see anything except my mouse cursor on a black screen.

Is this a known bug?

Yes, nVidia problem I am afraid. The only solution at the moment is to switch to another window manager before you switch back. Its not very satisfactory, I know.

It is worth saying that this bug only happens when you use indirect rendering.

I have found a partial workaround, as follows:

Disable 'detect refresh rate', and disable 'sync to vblank'

This allows beryl to return from the console, but compiz at the moment segfaults.

I assume the segfault can be fixed, though.
