Option 1:
download this (http://internap.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/gparted/gparted-livecd-0.3.4-9.iso) burn it to a cd with nero or any image burning software, shrink your windows partition so you have maybe 10-15 GB for ubuntu, get into windows do not skip the 'checking filesystem' screen, do not do anything until windows boots, get and burn ubuntu, and Install ubuntu into the 10-15 GB, don't delete windows! then you should have both installed on your computer, if you decide to uninstall ubuntu, first boot the gparted cd and delete the ubuntu partition, then you will have to boot the windows installation disk and select repair system, then boot gparted and make the window's partition big again, after that you use windows again :D
Option 2:
get this (http://wubi-installer.org/) and install it from windows reboot, and you can use Ubuntu, if you want to uninstall go to Add/Remove Programs in Windows, and uninstall and your back to normal :D
NOTE:If you use option 2 you will get an older version of ubuntu since they are not done moving the installer to the newer version, yet.
It shouldn't make too much of a difference though since it is only 6-months old :D also A few features like hibernating, and logging out then back in will not work :(

Yeah, that is how it works, you choose when you boot the computer :D

It should automatically set that, if you have problems you should ask them here (http://ubuntuforums.org/)

You download the first cd, gparted, and burn it to a disk, reboot, make some free space, execute that action, reboot, take the cd out, reboot, let windows run all of its checks, then windows should run fine.
So far, so good.
Get the ubuntu install cd and install it into the free space. Reboot, take the cd out, might need to reboot if you didn't take it out fast enough ;), then you can choose between ubuntu and windows whenever you boot, basically you're DONE!!!

If you ask me I'd say suse, package management isn't as fast as ubuntu's, but you get to get bleeding edge versions of compiz fusion :) and system management is easy, I never liked mandriva's whole system, and ubuntu has a lot of bugs, and just doesn't cut it, imho :D
But that's why there's choice ;)

i like mandriva 0% (not see it yet :D ) ubuntu 90% and Suse 10% ( Now it's alivalible for pay (I know, also 4 free :) ), loads of CDs, etc, don't know how to install CF (or better saying: i don't need CF) ) suse was 1 month on my fathers comp, then he used ubuntu
about bugs: without them is inpossibile to live (at least me! :D) I am "bugreporter" :D
when 7.10 was pre-relase, i installed it and LAMP and it was good, 'till i disabled auto login --- Gdm started to crash. i reported it and now it works fine :) :)
