This seems like a really strange problem, because I can't find any similar examples in either the Compiz or Beryl forums.
Anyway, I was running SuSE 10.1 on my notebook with an ATI Radeon Mobility 9700 and ATI's proprietary drivers. I set up Xgl and Compiz according to the methods described on Novell's Cool Solutions website.
No problem. Worked and looked fantastic for about 3 months. Then after what appeared to be an automatic update to Compiz via SuSE's Zen installer ... catastrophic GUI failure. I had these odd partial rendering artifacts (half the screen would render a few hundred milliseconds before the other half, in triangular fashion), and the window decorations were now missing, plus I couldn't enter any text to either the command option or Konsole.
So, I figured since SuSE 10.2 was now available, I'd try it there with Beryl. Once again, setting it up the way it's described in the guide on the openSuSE wiki, identical problem. Totally broken interface.
I'm really a linux noob so if anyone has any advice, I'd be super grateful.
Thanks.
