In beryl you simply hit Ctrl+Alt and the mouse would lock onto the cube and you could move the cube without holding any keys.
Does anyone know how to do the same for Compiz??

CTRL+ALT+ Mouse Left Button, hold the button and you can release ctrl+alt

I've recently noticed that when the Viewport Switcher plugin is enabled, middle-clicking anywhere on the desktop will grab the cube and hold onto it until it's released with a click. I don't especially prefer that behaviour, and would rather have been asked whether I wanted the cube to keep floating or to let it drop as soon as I release the middle button... In your case, the standard Ctrl+Alt+Button1 shortcut could benefit from such an option, too.
