Hi guys and gals;
If I try to select the "Flat-file Configuration Backend" from the Preferences, system freezes and only way out off it is pushing the reset button on my computer.
Is this a known issue and if so is there a way around this?
Thanks in advance.
Cheers.

Yup with earlier versions I have had that freeze.
First try Ctrl-ALT-Backspace (log out and X-restart) then try ALT-SysRq-b to avoid using power button.

Thanks for the reply.
The thing is I'm using the compiz fusion version that is available from synaptics and hence the problems I guess.
I'll just wait till newer version comes out in repos.
Cheers.

Ack, that's not good! The flat-file configuration backend is supposed to be the most reliable!
If changing the setting in ccsm causes your system to lock up, what about changing it when Compiz isn't running? Go to System->Preferences->Appearance->Visual Effects and select None to disable Compiz.
Then open the file ~/.config/compiz/compizconfig/config and change the text under the [gnome_session] heading to say:
[gnome_session]
backend = ini
profile =
Restart Compiz by entering compiz into a console. If it worked, you should be in flat-file configuration mode now.

This is what I've got.
[gnome_session]
profile =
plugin_list_autosort = true
backend = ini
In fact "gnome_session" is the only heading in it.
Should I change to look like yours?
Cheers.
EDIT:
After typing "compiz", this showed up in console:
helder@helder-ubuntu:~$ compiz
Checking for Xgl: not present.

Starting emerald
/usr/bin/compiz.real (video) - Warn: No 8 bit GLX pixmap format, disabling YV12 image format
And then it just stopped there.
Is this normal?
EDIT2:
After restarting compiz, "Flat-file Configuration Backend" from the Preferences is selected however, still scale doesn't work.
I move the mouse to the right upper corner and the windows won't move away like I've seen before.

Your config file is fine. backend = ini was the main detail that needed to be changed.
Have you returned to the ccsm->Scale->Actions->Initiate configuration page and tried to activate the top-right corner yet? Using the flat-file configuration backend will allow you to access any option, but you'll still have to readjust the ones you weren't able to change before.
