View Full Version : Ideas for "plane"-plugin

Some ideas for the plane-plugin:
- support for auto-switching viewport when windows are dragged out of the screen (like in cube-plugin)
- sticky windows should appear in front of everything (like drawings in annotate), at least during the viewport-movement animation
- zoom-out function to show an overview of all workspaces
These are only a note to myself (and anyone who is interested) ... would greatly improve usability of the wonderful plane-plugin (I recently "discovered") ...

Done. It's called 'wall'. :D

:D ... Yes, I heard of it and read about it but can't test it :( ... git-version is very unstable for me, for whatever reason compiz crashes whenever popup-menus open) ...
Does it really have that sticky-wins-feature I mentioned above? That would be soooooo cool for the appearance of the screenlets (well, I think it would) ...

I read something the other day which implied that the window sticking to the screen is correct and the way that compiz does it (ie sticking to desktop) is wrong.

:D Great news - thanks, mikedee. I already studied plane- and annotate-sources to see how it could be done but my GL-skills are close to zero. The sticky windows wouldn't need input during movement (though IR will make that possible, I suppose) so it should be not much more difficult than drawing the window-textures to the "layer" (?) where the annotate-drawings are drawn. For someone with a better insight of the compiz-code it shouldn't be very hard to implement (I guess) :? ...
I also gave 0.3.7 and the wall-plugin another try. Wall-plugin is really cool but it doesn't have the "sticky-win-thing" and plane runs smoother for me (can be a problem of git-version).
The movement "along" the wall is somehow too crazy for my taste - I was unable to find a system in the viewport-switching using the mousewheel ... it seemed like it was randomly choosing where to go. Maybe I was just too confused, though. The pager reminds me too much of the pager in metisse ...
Sorry for being honest :) ...
