Do i need KDE/Gnome

Hello,

i am new to compiz and i have a question regarding window manager/desktop.

Do i have to install/use KDE/Gnome/xfce to use it or can i run compiz as stand alone? i can't find anything about it in the wiki. Everything i found using google were howtos with kde or gnome.

No, but compiz depends on gtk to run, however, you will not have any icons panel etc.
