Sorry, I'm a bit of a newb. But honestly, I've searched all over, and nowhere can I find instructions on how to make these two effects work.
On Widgets
I've enabled the widget layer in ccsm, but I can't figure out how to specify what widgets I want displayed, or even where to find them.
On 3D Windows
The plugin doesn't even appear in my ccsm, and I can't seem to find a package in Synaptic that includes this plugin. A link, possibly?
I'm using the latest stable version of Compiz Fusion.
Thanks,
Kelson

hey kreuelt,
Hello guy!
First I am assuming you are running ubuntu but I would need to know if it is ubuntu feisty or gutsy.
well... the widget layer plugin is just a layer that allows the use of what is called widgets, small applications like clocks and calendars etc. however , of course, there are no widgets included with compiz fusion so you need to install some. One such group of widgets applications are called "Screenlets" you can download them from this link on this forum
http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/showthread.php?t=323
There is also something called gdesklets and adesklets. In my opinion screenlets have the most modern looking and are constantly updated and new themes created by users.
Gdesklets are next in line in terms of looks and adesklets last in line.
With screenlets, each screenlets has a right click and preferences where you can tick the box to Treat as widget and if the widget plugin is enabled already they will disappear onto that layer only to be seen with the widget layer default keybinding or any kebinding you have replaced that with. With gdedklets , if you go under the widget layer plugin and the Behaviour tab, you wil see the Widget Windows field where you would enter "gdesklets" withouth the quotes. This should enable them to be used on the widget layer and not on the desktop. Also in that same field, you can add any application you want and use that as a widget also , for example, you can type in that field , "gimp" without the quotes and gimp will show up only on the widget layer as well.
If you are on ubuntu feisty or gutsy it is most likely not going to offer 3D windows. Getting the 3D windows plugin may be possible through git and compiling that plugin but I dont do that any longer and am not the one to talk to about compiling extra plugins onto stable compiz fusion.
If you need any help with something like Screenlets, be sure to visit #compiz-fusion on irc and we can help with them there as well as compiz fusion problems and needs such as compiling a separate plugin onto the install that you have.
