View Full Version : Video Plugin - totem?

Hello,

i'm using Compiz Fusion 0.5.2 and the Video Plugin. The plugin seems to doesn't work with Totem Video Player. When i run in fullscreen mode, the cpu-usage explodes up to 95 percent and the video doesn't run smooth. (Mobility Radeon 9700 64 MB, 1,5 GHZ Centrino)

As i allready have seen, there is a patched Mplayer Version, which will support the video-plugin to decrease ressources in video fullscreen mode.

But will there be a video-plugin supported version of totem in future?

What about all new Gutsy Gibbon users? I guess not everybody has heard about a patched mplayer and lot's of them will be negatively surprised to see only 70% of the original frame-rate ;)

thanks

Unfortunately, each video application has to be patched to make use of the compiz video plugin. You'd have to check with the gnome developers to see if there are any plans on patching totem any time soon.

Filed a bug about this

I realize the thread is pretty old but I found it when searching for totem+compiz on google so I tought i would be good to have that info here :)

There is little chance that gnome will do anything but close that bug, for good reason. The patch for mplayer is a hacky workaround. The proper solution is to have the driver handle composited Xvideo (through something like Textured Video, which the open source drivers now support).
