View Full Version : Audacious loads compiz

Hi,

Under normal circumstances, my machine's cpu use hovers between three and five percent, with most of that being used by compiz (at least according to top). If I open my preferred medial player, audacious, the usage jumps by a fairly consistent 10% for some reason (this is still compiz taking the extra CPU cycles).

This jump in load goes away if I hide audacious (using the standard audacious window visibility settings) however it remains if I leave the app visible but scroll to a different desktop.

Can anyone suggest why this might be happening, and if I am stuck with the result? Thanks in advance.

As far as I remember Audacious is one of those Winamp clones.
So it may be due to the fact that such application require special handling by the window manager, since they are not regular windows (no window boarders etc)

I don't notice any difference in Compiz CPU usage when using Listen.

I had the same problem. CPU usage was at 10-20% with the player running. It became normal after I switched to the 'TinyPlayer' Skin.

I think it's the visualization which causes the CPU load. It causes permanent screen redraws, which may cause a certain extent of CPU usage, depending on the graphics hardware and drivers.
