Cube rotate, but panels to stay put

Tried to search for answer, but couldn't find anything related to this.

Is it possible to make Gnome panels to stay put = attached to screen borders, while using the cube effect? The panels contain mostly system wide information, instead of desktop specific content, so it would be natural for them to be unattached to the desktop?

No that's not possible right now. Beryl had such a feature but Compiz doesn't. It's requested pretty frequently around the forums.
