Hi all. I'm quite new to *nix systems, but I'm learning quite fast as I need to for University.

Over the past few days I've spent time trying to set up a nice looking Desktop, but making sure it comtains what I need.

I've been looking at getting something like this video: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=ZD7QraljRfM

There is also an image that I've seen somewhere (can't seem to find it now), the desktop is white and black with a clock in the centre.

The main thing I am looking for is the Dock from that video.

As I said, I've been trying to find these things for the past few days, and I'd continue with it, but my other half is getting quite fed up of me spending 12 hours on my laptop trying to get it set up.

I'm running Debian Sid with CF atm. I've tried Cario-Dock, which doesn't seem to like running for me. I was trying to install Kiba-Dock too, but it won't install for some reason.

Any help that saves me a few hours is greatfully received.

Thanks.

hello

that's either

kiba-dock (www.kiba-dock.org)

or

awn (https://launchpad.net/awn)

It's hard to decide which one is better as they're both very good docks.... :D

EDIT : continued further with the video, that is definitely kiba-dock (it used to be you couldn't disable that feature where the icons go wild (powered by the akamaru engine) and it made the dock really unstable and slow, but nowadays you can turn it off and the dock is considerably better for it (unless the novelty doesn't wear off for you :D))

Thanks very much for that.

I've got Kiba, but as I said, I can't seem to get it installed. I'll see what packages I'm missing.

Thanks again

That's not the same one, although it does look very nice.

Screenlets seems to have gone a bit fubar for me. I see it in the menus, but when I launch it a windows just flashes then nothing happens. Would it be worth making a new post about?

I did have it running on Ubuntu when I tried that.

Thanks

I'm not sure about screenlets, as I haven't used it for a long time, and there have been version changes since then.

As for the dock, that's Kiba Dock. If you're using Ubuntu, you can get it from Trevino's eyecandy repository.

I've posted a new thread on the Screenlets board. It's starting to annoy me now, I'm thinking of changing to Fedora 7, but really don't want to go through all this again.

My main concern now aside from the Screenlets is my menus colour. I've set my Taskbar/Panel to a custom colour, but when I click the gnome menu, it's all White still. the Inside of windows is still white too. Quite annoying and ugly.

Kiba-Dock seems to have stopped working again too :/ *sign*
