Hi,

I would really like to get rid of the Gnome Panel, but I can't live without the Clock/Calander, cpu+ram+network+disk load monitors, and volume control.

I have tried gDesklets, but they are way too complicated to install =(

So what do you use?

Can AWN do any of that?

Hugs,
Louise

My clock/panel is patched pypanel. For additional stuff (cpu, ram, net, disk load) you can use conky.
I control volume with keyboard shortcuts (alt+q for mute, alt+w volue down, alt+e volume up, alt+r volume 50%).

I use Screenlets for all of my widget needs.

(Ignore the virtualization stuff and look at the widgets on the right).

Weather Screenlet: This is the standard Weather screenlet that has been floating around. However, I made two small changes. First of all, I just changed some strings to get it to say Home instead of my location (I'm pretty sure that I know where I live). Secondly, I borrowed the RYX Glass theme from the calendar screenlet and adapted it to work with the weather screenlet. I did this because I wanted to create a common theme among all of my screenlets. Since I have taken that screenshot, I have changed the text color to white.

Calendar Screenlet: Just the standard calendar screenlet. I modified the background a bit to make it a bit larger in length because the 30 and the 31 would get cut off at the bottom.

Clock Screenlet: Again, this is standard. It seemed as though the RYX Glass theme kept trying to override my settings, so I commented out some code to prevent it from doing that.

Temperature Meter Screenlet: This is a homegrown screenlet. I took the System Status screenlet and heavily modified it to display various temperatures in my system. If you want the sourcecode, just ask. You might need to make some modifications to the script to get it to work with your temperature sensors.

Screenlets has monitors for RAM usage, CPU usage, etc. I don't use them, though.

I like Conky, but it seems to do funny things with my system. With the last version that I tried, top reported that it was using 100% of my CPU usage. And that wasn't because of my .conkyrc file.
