View Full Version : fusion-icon, backends, and ccsm

I am using Trevinos git repo, and starting compiz with the fusion-icon. All works great, except that I can't change the backend, or rather make it stick. Fusion-icon insists on using 'ini', and so settings in ccsm don't happen.

ccs-settings does work, but isn't ideal, and I can't find a way to change to ccsm....this has gotten a tad confusing to be honest!

Any ideas?

I think there's a bug if you use kde instead for flat file, don't know about gconf

Could you please clarify exactly where you're seeing the "ini" setting? I use fusion-icon as well, and I don't believe it offers a choice of configuration backends.

Ok, if I start fusion-icon from a terminal, amongst the output it says

Backend: ini
Integration: True
Profile: Default

...thats where I got that.

Basically I am just confused by the settings tools. Which one is meant to actually change the settings? Using the fusion-icon right click settings manager, it seems to be a somewhat limited manager...plus doesn't actually change any settings....at all. My desktop is all working fine, I just cannot adjust anything, so I have all defaults. Neither it seems can I change settings with gconf..

Not sure if this is relevant, but according to the terminal, the command fusion-icon is using to start, is

compiz.real --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp

Cheers

Oh! That means it's using the Flat-file configuration backend for compizconfig. The ccp (compizconfig) plugin has 3 backends, and flat-file is the most reliable. So that's good.

That also looks right. The ccp plugin allows ccsm (the "Settings Manager" from fusion-icon's menu) to communicate with the compizconfig system, so if it's loaded, ccsm should be working.

Did you install Compiz Fusion from Trevino's repository from about 2-3 days ago? The most recent packages in that repository are broken, so that may be the reason you can't configure anything.

There's a workaround posted to http://forum.compiz-fusion.org/showthread.php?t=3432 , if you'd like to try that. It contains instructions for downgrading to an earlier version of Trevino's packages.
