Sorry if this is not the right place to report bugs, but I searched on the web site (http://compiz.org/), in the FAQs (http://compiz.org/FAQ/Users), on Google (http://www.google.com/search?q=compiz+bug+report), and on the former Beryl web site (http://bugs.beryl-project.org/), I haven't been able to see any bug tracker for Compiz.

I'm using Beryl on PC-BSD 1.4b and it's not working as expected. Many windows are entirely black, making the whole system unusable. Please have a look at the screenshots attached and the .xsession-errors file.

On the last screenshot you'll see also that the 2nd window (Konqueror) has no window decoration anymore for some reason.

This happens with any application or menu.
Hope this helps.

There is a bug in the nvidia driver that causes the black window problem. You can try using indirect rendering, which many say solves the problem for them.

Thanks Adam. Is NVIDIA aware of this bug? Otherwise I will report it to them.

Yes, they are aware of it and have said that it should be fixed in a newer version of the drivers in the not-too-distant future, iirc.

A Compiz-Fusion wiki is in the works - "Black Windows" i would hope, will be in there.
Bug reporting is being worked on too. CF uses "Bugzilla"

Trac seems to be an interesting tool for software projects. It has a bug tracker, an SVN browser, a roadmap and a wiki: http://trac.edgewall.org/

I'm not a Compiz Fusion developer, however, I have not yet experienced the black windows bug in Compiz Fusion where I used to get them constantly in Beryl. I am even able to run WoW in Compiz Fusion and not get the black windows. I'm running the latest nVidia driver on my 8800GTS w/640MB of RAM.

Cheers.

can you attach a copy of your xorg.conf please ?? :D

not having the bwb would be so very cool :D (like back in the xgl days, except without the slowness :D)

I'm actually on a business trip this week, but I'll get my son to turn on the PC and I'll SSH into it tonight and snag a copy for you. I forgot to enable Wake on LAN or I could get it for you now :P.

The reason he doesn't get it is probably the 640 Mbs of texture memory, takes some time to exhaust that =)
I have 128Mb and at 1280x1024 can have 5-6 full screen windows before the bug kicks in. If he runs the same resolution, he'd need to open 20-30 full screen windows to get it...

No, that is not the reason. Playing WoW on Beryl ALWAYS caused it, and fast. I have NEVER experienced it on Compiz Fusion, not once, and I've had it running for days at a time. Under Beryl, it was like 5 minutes max before it occurred. Anyhow, here's my xorg.conf if it helps.

Playing WoW on Beryl ALWAYS caused it,

insert conspiracy theory about beryl knowing how bad a game wow is here :D :p

Anyhow, here's my xorg.conf if it helps.

I didn't have the backingStore option, NvAGP was set to 0 for me and i had the DamageEvents (true) and UseEvents (false) options......

changing xorg to be more like yours had no effect :(

you're just lucky :D

Maybe beryl and/or WoW had texture memory leaks.
(Or rather more leaks than compiz, because I also notice a slight errosion over time in compiz)

Are you running the latest nVidia drivers? I forget the version, but it's like 100.[something].
