I saw a video awhile ago demonstrating an OS in development that views a box top down with files and directories within it, you could pick each up, throw it around etc and stack them or arange them with guestures

i cant find the video agin but maybe someone will know what im on about

would it be possible to make a compiz plugin that does that to some extent?

//edit
found the link! http://bumptop.com/

unless you're talking about doing that for the windows themselves, that would be more of a thing for a document viewer/organiser...

like MacSlow's Lowfat http://macslow.thepimp.net/?page_id=18

and I think I remember seeing another program like that, but I can't think what it was just now...

Hey, thanks for that link, ShadowHarlequin. That is really interesting. Love the kiba dock like physics. and it's long overdue that a new way of approaching the desktop was tried. It reminds me of why i was so happy to find Compiz/Beryl.

No, i haven't seen it before, as i believe i said.
And i can't see much point in your post delfick except perhaps to boast about your extensive knowledge, and to imply that i'm not as massivly well read in the forums as you are.
If you are going to be a moderator - i would hope that this is not an example of how you are going to talk to people.
I would like this to be a friendly forum, free from any kind of unproductive, or insulting comments.
Thank you.

just when browsing directories in fedora, each directory opens in a new window, i want them to replace the old (open in it) window instead

yep, i know what problem you have

we had the same thing on the computers at uni that has fedora on them

the problem is you have a slightly old version of nautilus...

but i don't know how to update it...

probably best to ask on a forum for fedora....

good luck :D

It's in the nautilus properties. Something like "always open in ..blabla"

Specifically, "Always open in browser windows," under Behavior, is the option to disable spatial browsing. It should be checked if you want them to open in the same window.

is that under nautilus too?
