They look like mock ups. The last screenshots I've seen of KDE 4 beta looked nothing like that.

Its something like that.
You can add a thing similar to our screenlets. But for me there all empty except for the Clock, but it is analog, not digital.
Maybe I will post a screenshot later.

I can confirm what Finswimmer said - KDE4 beta was not very convincing when I tried it. The desktop is just empty (like no panel, no artwork - just nothing) and the plasmoids are _extremely_ resource-intense (e.g. when they are moved the CPU goes to 100%) ... Also I was unable to find more plasmoids than the Clock and a useless button. That annoying desktop-box in the upper-left was undecorated and badly sucked.
I know its a beta, but still I was fairly disappointed because the screenhots promised much more breathtaking effects.
Even though I still believe they are doing a great job, I won't use it again very soon ... Compiz is MUCH faster and MUCH more breathtaking.

yeah i agree that compiz is a kick ass window/composite manager, but i like kwin too... i would definitely use compiz in kde4 and i will give it a try to kwin on kde4 too, since it will have many effects as well, but probably not all that compiz fusion has, what is really interesting in kde4 is all the framework they made, like plasma, phonon, etc, plasma is new desktop that replaces kdesktop, it will just create a more live desktop in the end... and with a kick ass composite manager like compiz fusion is, it will be the best desktop ever imho.
read about plasma, http://plasma.kde.org/

Fancy names and cool images are not everything ;) ... try it, then you'll know what I mean. It simply doesn't work as it should (yet) ...

i been following the kde4 development for some time now and i tried kde4 beta 2 with plasma and all that, i love the concepts behind plasma and the way it's designed, is not very usable yet but is going there and will be usable soon, plasma will make great things on the future.
for example, you will be able to replace the taskbar and create your own taskbar/plasmoid or any other plasmoid you can ever imagine, and you will be able to move plasmoids (applets) to other plasmoids (plasma extenders iirc) the desktop background is going to be plasmoid too and all of them supporting animations and stuff like that.
take a look at this: http://aseigo.blogspot.com/2007/09/plasma-backgrounds.html

The last beta I tried was Beta 1.
I'm not at all concerned that KDE 4 is nowhere near usable at this point. I'm very glad that it got delayed until December. I'm a Gnome user who has flirted with KDE on and off. Despite the fact that I keep coming back to Gnome, I really love some of the innovations that get put into KDE. I really like Konqueror, particularly the fact that it is not at all resource intensive, especially when compared to Firefox, which I love, but its ram use has always been a constant source of woe. I wish Konqueror were a bit more full-featured in the web department (or that Firefox gets its resource problems fixed).
I have really high hopes for KDE 4(.1) and I don't mind it taking a while to arrive.

As a huge fan of KDE, I'm excited about KDE 4, but can wait... and as mentioned by others, I can still play with Compiz in the meantime :D

I mostly agree with you about Konqueror--it's my favorite browser hands-down. (But I use KDE all the time, so it probably makes more sense for me to use it, I suppose.) But after browsing with Konqueror most of the time, it's getting to the point where I just yell at people who claim Firefox is the "fastest, lightest, and most secure browser ever" (and they mostly use Windows...)
