Would it be possible to have Shift Switcher zoom the windows to and from their original positions just like the Screensaver plugin does? It looks kinda disconnected the way it works now, but if I could see the window zoom down into switching position and back that would be really cool!

hehe this would also be a way to say to mac/windows users "yeah, we can do that flip3d type thing or the coverflow type thing, but ours is better!" :) hehe

seriously though, i think the fading behaviour (rather than scaling and translating the windows to the positions) makes it a lot harder to see for the first few seconds what window is where. when you see the windows move (as in the scale plugin for instance) you get a much more natural feel for where everything is. it also looks much more awesome :) i think this is essentially the same argument that was for the expo plugin with the desktops. it works much more naturally now that the whole desktop zooms rather than fading.

+1 on that!

I love shift so much I have replaced my alt+tab functionality with it. If there were a zoom it would totally complete the experience.

:) I personally think the shift is already better than the mac one simply because it allows you to shift windows rather than files. Maybe I'm just old fashioned, and it's totally an opinion, but I like to see all my files, but being able to navigate windows using the shift switcher makes a lot more sense to me.

Speaking of Mac stuff. There's a unofficial Mac fest happening where I'm at, and I'll be demo-ing Compiz Fusion there. :D

Oh yes!

Please, please do that. Sugar on top.

I've just been running shift a few times and windows DO zoom into position don't they? It certainly doesn't look like fading to me.

I think so, too - they certainly do zoom into position

How do they not zoom into position? Are we missing something here or...?

The only problem I see when animation speeds are reduced is that windows can go through each other if they collide.

That was fixed a while ago in http://gitweb.compiz-fusion.org/?p=fusion/plugins/shift;a=commit;h=5f32d5c3ffeb55dac4a8a45e6637a7724 febe1be (I think that's the one)

Before that commit, entering or exiting shift mode just faded the screen.
