the problem is that only two of the proposals have icon for the settings, decorator, etc. so what happens if one the other two wins. what will be the other icons. my choice is - openartist's logo with graphreak's idea for the rest

Its fantastic that this is almost over. I really hope that everyone is happy when the final results come in.
Once the logo has been decided upon, the theme for the compiz-fusion.org website can be finished off. Ubuntu 7.10 is coming out in October with CF integrated. This is going to mean alot more people who have never really used Compositing before will suddenly be looking for more information, guides, ideas etc. Its really important that by then we have the website up and running to welcome them. OC.O has been a wonderful halfway house. I am just really excited about unpacking in our new home :-)

I voted Daleduro because I think it's a fresh idea.

Unfortunately only one of the icons from the complete set from Nécropotame is shown in this thread. Please go to http://www.opencompositing.org/contest/ ... itemId=444 (http://www.opencompositing.org/contest/main.php?g2_itemId=444) to see the rest of the icons developed for settings, core, etc. before voting. ;)

I voted Daleduro because I think it's a fresh idea.
Daleduro is very similar to a lot of icon artwork deployed in the '90's on the windows platform.

Straight from my blog:
Just a few things that marex forgot to mention :
1 : The logo’s are _not_ final, and the web team will work with the artist to tweak the logo for the needs of web design and composition.
2 : Logo’s for decorators / Settings Managers will be used if provided, if not, they will be based on the official Compiz-Fusion logo

I just wanted to say that I am very impressed with all of them. They each have qualities that are unique and desirable. Maybe we could just create a mix of them all? :)
Great job to all!!!

Graphreak's logos look nice, but way too similar to ACDSee's branding, and the meaning beind the graphics are mostly very vague. That really turns me off because I use ACDSee on Windows, and the similarities would disrupt correct subconscious association with the icons.
Nécropotame's logo is better, but still very vague, and lacks the supporting icons.
OpenArtist's logo is perhaps the least intuitive icon. I get that it is supposed to be about something cool because of the nebula explosion, but that's about it. I also get the impression that it would scale very poorly.
I settled on Daleduro for my vote, because:
1) It's the only full set besides Graphreak's, while being very distinct.
2) Three of the icons have a discernable meaning that relates to what they represent. The main "Fusion" one does a fancy squiggly arrow instead of simply an arrow, which pretty much says "flashy graphics." The set of gears always pretty much says "settings" (while not so much a check mark). And, the corner of a window with the minimize, maximize, and close icons is pretty telling too.
I don't particularly like that it's round, because I'd like to see more distinctiveness in product branding through use of shape, but that's hard to do at icon sizes, and the chrome-globe-like lighting improves distinction between this and other icon sets like the mozilla branding. Anyway, I really hope the poll takes a shift away from Graphreak's icons (no offense, his work is certainly good), which is why I took the time to write out my opinion.
Cheers.

Graphreak gets my vote.
Is it possible to get the compiz-core icon ? :p
I'd really see that blue icon sitting in my sys-tray as fusion-icon's icon (am i clear?)

I don't know why the contest entry for necropotame does'nt contain the whole set, but here it is.

When I hear the name "compiz-fusion", for whatever reason, I instinctively think of the colors pink and blue. That being said, OpenArtist's entry immediately caught my eye; Apparently I wasn't the only one who thought that.

They're all really good, but some comments:
In the 4th one , they aren't cubes
In the 3rd one, the logo isn't simple enough. A logo, I think, should be simple enough and have a definite outline.
To me the 1st makes more sense than the 2nd.
Anyway that's the reasoning behind my vote.
Edit: I didn't see the other 3 logos for Nécropotame. That should definitely be put on the front page, because that may have swayed my vote.
That having been said, I like the icon for settings from Necropotame (the wrench makes more sense than the check mark to me) but everything else I'd vote for graphreak.

Nécropotame's logo isn't the more representative for me (OpenArtist yes), but is clear, simply... With the essence of Compiz (blue, always blue with the arrow) but Fusion... (hehe Where is?) Anyway my vote goes to him undoubtedly, I'm using one of his icons to lauch compiz --replace :D
I don't know why only one icon is visible from his complete set... A little unfair...

My turn...
Like everyone I'd say they're all good tough here's my reasoning :
1. First everyone seems to like the Graphreak logo, for me it's not so good as people say it is! I'm not agree with putting a black color cause I think Compiz Fusion need something fresh not a black thing that is sad to me. Then that Logo take the cube from compiz back so once again not a fresh idea...
2. The Necropotame set is really attractive with his nice colors for each icons and it's complete so it's just nice but then again it takes back the cube logo from original compiz !
3. Now OpenArtist got my vote because of his original idea. Yeah, well it's a cube like always but he somehow mixed up the two colors of beryl and compiz, the blue stands for compiz, the purple tends to red stands for beryl and in the middle a ball of light that symbolize the fusion... As for Necropotame work all the work from OpenArtist can be shawn from there [url:760f7]http://www.opencompositing.org/contest/main.php?g2_itemId=457[/url:760f7]. We can see they also made simple round icons that I find very attractive but that's another story...
4. About the work from Daleduro, I think the balls he has done aren't fitting with my idea of compiz fusion logo though it's a good piece of work !

i would like to do a little comment about the vote...first at all i really appreciate the fact that my design were included in this poll, i dont know which is the criteria the team has used to choose the final designs, i dont know if was used some graphical criteria or not...i know too that can`t fulfill the taste of all community in this kind of decision, that is a fact and all we must be consequent with that, i`ve presented three set of icons for this contest, first of them were the spherical shaped icons that are been voted now, but i`ve presented two sets of cubed icons, the last set fulfill in a better way with the tendency of the majority of members who has participated in this thread...
http://dalemasduro.iespana.es/imagenes/compizfusion/compiz_concept_show.png
I mean, maybe this cubed version, make the vote less confused about the result that the community looks for, i mean choose between different options of the same type (cubed shaped icons)...but please i dont want my message be misunderstood, it`s just a constructive comment, just trying to offer a better set of choices to fulfill the main goal...that`s all...
Finally i would like to congratulate all artists were involved in this project for their excellent works...
Regards.

first of all, I am amazed by everyone's entry, props to everyone's effort.
that said , OpenArtist for the win baby. If i say CompizFusion in my mind. That logo keeps coming up. even when I am away from computer... if i go away right now and try to image other logo's I wont remember anything partiacular , except some arrow going somewhere in middle...
I dearly hope Open artists wins and he makes Cool FULL-SET :D . (please post link if there already is set and its not posted by moderate at start.)

If there's not a significant difference in the number of votes for number 1 and number 2 when the voting is closed I hope there will be a second round of voting for the two logos that has the most votes, so that those who voted on one of the two designs with less votes can have a say on which of those they like the most.

Yes, the winner should have a majority of all votes cast. If there is no majority we will have a runoff between the top 2 finishers. It took us awhile to get to this point because the community admins have already held 2 votes to narrow the field down. After the first vote we concluded that we had eliminated all the "unacceptable" entries and it was safe to have the community make the final selection. I hope our favorites are your's also.

Wow. I am glad to see this moving forward. Great job!
I wish there was a "standard presentation" for the logo set. Which icons and logos and such, but I can understand the time crunch. I'm sure anyone can design their own theme around the compiz-fusion icons after the winner is chosen.
I'm new, but made an account just to vote. Again, looks good. I'm glad I was able to read the thread before choosing.

Grapheak's looks nicer for a splash page, or like in a menu or maybe like a wallpaper or something... Reminds me of boxed software, but it doesn't look good as a logo... I didn't like the other icons all that much, just the main one.
Nécropotame's looks a little rushed =/
EDIT: Didn't notice the rest of the icons. Looks really nice, better than Grapheak's extra ones.
OpenArtist's is by far my favourite, for a logo... Nice, simple, and really does show off the "CompizFusion" idea, and mixes the Beryl & Compiz colours as well.
Daleduro's would make nice icons, in like configuration panels and stuff.

I agree with m4v3r1ck!!
My vote goes to openartist cause Fusion must have an icon to look like a Fusion style not like the old compiz...
Also Fusion means fantasy, progression, colour waterfalls, progressive music... So openartist is the best for me! ;)

I know it has been said already...
Please rerun the vote showing full Necropotame's icon set like in:

IMHO, as it is now the vote looks spoilt: full proposals competing against only _a_part_ of Necropotame's one.
People just look at the firts page and vote without reading the whole thread.

I agree.
And "Graphreak" (the most voted  ) and "Daleduro" didn't understand that "compiz-core" doesn't exist (it is compiz, live with it) and that compiz already has its own logo-style, chosen by the compiz community months ago.

Addressed to all those concerned about Necropotame's logo:
Remember that these designs are not in any way final. The idea of the artwork contest is to vote for the general design that you think represents Compiz Fusion best, and not the actual logo. The dev's have done a lot of the hard work for you, as there were many similar designs in the artwork contest for the devs. Now we have 4 completely unique designs.
So just remember, vote for the idea of a design that you think would represent compiz fusion best. Not the number of icons, or how polished the icon is. Just the general design.

I completely understand those of you who say "let's move on", and I don't disagree, I'm not going to bitch because my preferred icon didn't win!
But I find it strange that Graphreak is [url=http://smspillaz.wordpress.com/2007/08/08/compiz-fusion-community-news-edition-11-for-august-07-2007-new-logo-and-new-animations/:53176]said to be the winner[/url:53176] when we were promised a second round of voting if no one got 50%, which no one did. If this had not been promised I would not complain, and I would say that it's only fair that the logo with 48% of the votes wins. Am I missing something? Are 2% off just too small of a difference to matter? I, for one, would like there to be a second round, but I do understand if you think that would only be a waste of time. But for the fairness of it, I mean..
What do you think?
