View Full Version : Multiple Users (ATI hates me)

On my desktop computer (which runs aiglx) there is generally more than one user logged in. I can't seem to find a way to use compiz on more than one desktop though. I can have compiz running on either user1 or user2, but not both at the same time. I've been told that compiz can't run more than one instance on a display. Is there any workaround for this? Any thoughts or ideas?

As far as i know that is not possible. If it were possible though, think of the
resources needed to do that.

But the question then becomes... how do Microsoft and Apple get around this?

Shouldn't resources be freed when they're truly not in use? Meaning, User1's resources are freed back up when User2's desktop is the active one.

I stand corrected. After getting a chance to try it, it worked for me.
It is WAY resource intensive but works fine here with my hardware.

I will have to try it again when I get home, but when i last tried (a couple weeks ago) it just wasn't happening. Did you do anything special to get it running on both?

I could be wrong, but I don't believe that the open source ATI drivers support direct rendering on multiple X servers at the same time. From the second X server, check to see if you have direct rendering enabled.

adamk: very good to know... I will look for that when I try it in a bit.

adamk: yep, you were spot on...

Sucks that it won't work for me, but much better to at least know why.
