Shortly after we locked the "Why Compiz?" thread I was contacted by several members of the Beryl community who wished to follow up on some of my suggestions for reducing hostility and increasing cooperation. We agreed that a good first step was to work together to create a statement describing the differences between the communities which would then be posted on each of our sites. I will make sure the document is posted here for discussion before it goes on the site.

While the joint statement itself will be a modest achievement, I think it will provide two other important benefits:

1. The document will spell out the historical differences between the projects and provide the definitive answer to all fork related questions. Whenever the question comes up in the future we can simply point to the document without further discussion and avoid these brush fires that periodically flare up.

2. We will start rebuilding the bridges between the communities and repairing broken relationships.

The second benefit is already becoming apparent as Kristian has recently ported his Opacify plugin to Compiz and is supporting it. AMGeeX has also been active on the Beryl forum sharing documentation. Nice work folks! BTW, I've discussed this with David and he supports any effort to bring the communities closer together.

I too agree with this and will be actively participating with other fellow Beryl and Compiz team members to create this document. We will keep you informed.

Though I'm not a developer, I have been a tester and user amongst both communities for a while.

I'll try and find a chance to help with this as I think it's for the better well-being of both parties.

I agree.... it would have been sad to see this little evolution of the linux desktop damaged by some unfortunate misunderstandings.... (It's much better with fortunate understandings!... :) ...).

So now we look forward to see some more great plugins for Compiz and Beryl!...

Keep up the good work!.... :)
