View Full Version : Time to Vote for Our New Logo!

The discussion and editing period has come to a close and it's time to vote. But before you do, please take a look at the following voting procedures:

1. The logo poll requires a majority of the votes cast to win.

2. If there is no majority, we will drop the entries with lowest non-zero vote count and any entries with zero votes, then take additional polls until one entry gets a majority.

3. Each poll will last for 3 days with the first one ending at midnight GMT on December 24th. (there's got to be some symbolism there somewhere)

4. Due to the holidays and vacations, if a 2nd poll is required we will not start the poll until after January 1st to ensure the largest number of us have the opportunity to vote.

5. Due to the extended break after the 1st poll, the entries remaining after the 1st poll will be allowed to discuss and edit their entries until the beginning of the 2nd poll. After that any additional polls will be held immediately following the previous poll and there will be no additional editing.

I'm including the entries by "Who" even though they technically were a couple hours late. I think not being able to edit and get feedback during the discussion period is a sufficient penalty for late submission. If you feel otherwise then vote for another logo. Thanks for the efforts of all our "contestants", excellent work. Now go forth and vote!

What it boiled down to, for me, was originality and pure aesthetics.

For that, some1else won hands down.

I too voted for some1else's logo, its plain simple and pure bliss. Good job all!

P.S. The main wiki page and Contest page have been updated with links to this page!

I chose vdepizzol's "Tango Logo", because it has a slight edge over some1else's "User Interface" imo. "Tango Logo" has a more powerful feel to it, and I like the way it implies the impact compiz has on the UI.

EDIT: Yes, I know that vdepizzol's logo resembles jimmac's XGL-logo (http://jimmac.musichall.cz/stuff/private/xgl/composite.mp4).

Best regards...

MacSlow

Votod for vdepizzol's "Tango logo". I always liked Tango-style icons. And this one looks great too.

@ migueldeicaza: I don't see your vote in the poll. You should select the "Who - Glowing Cube" entry in the poll at the top of the page if this is the one you want.

Id say the "user interface" logo looks super, it gets my vote, but the red box is also good,

the "Interface logo" its clearly the most professional one and should win the contest.

Remember a good icon should work at many sizes, I think KRZYzaK - Three Arrows is the only one that will do that

Thanks for all the compliments and votes.

I've updated my thread (http://forum.go-compiz.org/viewtopic.php?p=1839) with the evolution of my proposal.

It should be a nice read whether you're a designer or not.

@lagorgy: The poll is about to close and we are almost certainly going to have a second round. Do you wish to withdraw your entries from the second round?

Interface icon looks more professional, but it doesn't have that special something that the Tango icon has.

Plus, Tango guidelines are the way to go for consistency

So I vote for the Tango icon by vdepizzol

Too late. I didn't get the chance to vote for the three arrows logo :(

Too bad! I came too late!!

For me the best one is some1else's proposition. Some1else's logo is clean, professional, well designed and unique. It's different from every other logos and it's very recognizable. My vote goes absolutely for his logo!

Three arrows is also a good logo, but it's not very original... I mean.... I'm sure to know at least 3 or 4 companies with similar logo... I think anyway it's one of the best propositions out there, so it's my second choice!

I also like the visual impact of vdepizzol, but i don't honestly understand what it represents. In addition, I'm feeling like vdepizzol logo it's a bit too "violent" and not representative of the value of "cleanliness" that compiz clearly represents when compared to other similar projects...beryl at first. Imho vdepizzol logo has a potential, but it's not clean enough to be the compiz logo (it would be probably the best one for beryl)

Anyway, i'll vote in the next poll...!

Have a lot of fun!

some1else's is my favorite - easily identifiable, and pretty.

AHHHH I missed the voting because of GMT (sorry for being an insensitive EST clod)... There is going to be a second round though, right?

Voting in the first round of the logo contest has come to an end. We had great turnout for the vote with nearly a quarter of our registered members voting. We had 6 entries which didn't get any votes and are automatically eliminated. The lowest vote count was 1 which eliminated two other entries, and lagorgy has withdrawn his "First Logo" entry. That leaves us with the following 6 entries for the next round:

zootreeves - Red Cube
zootreeves - Variation on cube
KRZYzaK - Three Arrows
vdepizzol - Tango Logo
some1else - User Interface
Who - Glowing Cube

AMGeeX, when you recover from your Christmas partying, can you update the contest page to show the remaining entries?

We are re-opening the discussion and unlimited editing period which will continue until after the New Year. At that time we will freeze all editing and begin the final elimination which will continue until one logo receives a majority of votes. Congratulations to the designers that made it to the second round and I can't wait for the next round.

Ah that's a shame i didn't vote for the first part of the contest but i'll be there for the final one :)

vdepizzol your logo is really nice i think ... it make me think of the first seconds of a nuclear explosion not really a nice image but it refers to power that is hidden inside it and it is a pretty good image for compiz and i really like the logo too so i think i'll vote for this one :)

0. Hear about me in "the official "Introduce Yourself" thread".

1. If we are going to vote with a political goal, I would definitely vote for the "Three Arrows" logo. If Compiz is ever going to be preferred over Beryl in Ubuntu, it would be appropiate for it to bear an Ubuntu-like logo. And the Three Arrows don't remind me about Compiz as an unique experience... they remind me about "Ubuntu Window Manager".

2. I don't see how the "User Interface" logo breaks so badly desktop consistency. I can easily recognize it as a revolution in desktop experience, and it's unique.

3. As we aren't in a political party, I'll vote in the next poll for "User Interface" Congratulations!

i really like vdepizzol's tango logo, esp. because i love tango style ;)
but i think that something is missing. it just looks like a red square with the yellow impact. the impact is nice, but the red square doesn't really tell me anything, maybe you can improve that part a bit?
my vote goes for it nevertheless ;)

While I'm an unwavering Tango fan, I have to say I dislike vde's Tango Logo.

While he may use Tango palettes and such, the icon goes against one of the most important of the Tango guidelines: his icon is ambiguous! I don't look at it and think "OH - desktop effects!"
