Here is a quick Firefox plugin which I wrote to stop the hassle of changing your skydome. It adds an option to the right click menu to set an image as your skydome.

Just right click on an image and choose 'Set as Skydome Image', then choose the size of the final skydome and set and crop/stretch options (basic at the moment). The plugin will automatically convert it to a png and set your compiz options for you.

To install

You must have version 2.0 or above (sorry but 1.5 just doesn't have the functionality required).

To install this, open Tools->Add-ons and click the extensions tab. Then drag the link above over to the extensions manager. Its unusual, but its the easiest way to install ATM :)

You can find skydome images here

Are you right clicking on an image? Do your normal image only menu options appear?

Can you add 3.* support? :)

Try now :)

Please let me know if you cannot see the menu item either, it should be right at the bottom.

Is anyone else seeing this problem?

Just a quick 'works for me' will be helpful

Works for me, seems to set the skydome image correctly. But the skydome image doesn't actually work, I can't seem to get skydome to work at all.

Yep, me too. I can set skydome image to something and it seems to work as its doesnt draw the fallback gradient, but i dont see skydome - everything is just white.

Do you both have the png plugin loaded?

Yep png is loaded, just a white background. Also don't know if it's related but i can't change the colors of the skydome gradient either, always blue to light blue.

You might want to try changing the size of the final image, set it to the smallest size and see if it makes a difference.

Can you get a skydome to work manually, or is that not working either?

I have the same problem, the skydome doesn't work, and I can't get the images at the top and the bottom of the cube to work either. I think that png is loaded, because the default image on the top of the cube worked (The Ubuntu logo), and they were png format. The gconf-editor just tells me there is no value for any of the 3 png plugins in /apps/compiz/plugins/png.

Ill try to get around to updating this soon. You will all get an update notification through Firefox when I do so if you have problems then please report it here.

I will not have a lot of time for this in the near future, but I do plan to get it up to a good state. It depends on dbus which has changed a bit recently so Ill wait for all those changes before doing much more.
