This plugin is a new one so may be a bit tempremental. It was written by Kristian at beryl. Here is the official explanation.

Opacify increases opacity on targeted windows and reduces it on blocking windows, making whatever window you are targeting easily visible.

I think this would be useful if you have focus follows mouse enabled.

how is this different from trailfocus?

Good question, I think the intention of it is different, but it is a similar effect.

This could be used so that you can have lots of overlapping windows, it makes only the window under the muose opaque and the rest totally transparent. Trailfocus just leaves a trail of focused windows.

I could see how this plugin could enhance productivity, but you would need to have focus follows mouse for it to be truly effective.

I used it on latest Compiz-Quinn. It was ok.
