I just wanted to write a little note expressing my appreciation of the work and thought and community-development that have gone into getting this project to where it is now.
The bottom line is, a person like me, just your average moderately intelligent, computer literate, sentient being with a desire for it can take these tools and packages you have all made and can quite quickly and easily create a desktop experience that is not just an iterative advancement in the human-computer interface. The sum total of the desktop experience provided by Compiz/Beyrl/CompComm (hereinafter "the package" since the lines dividing the three are a bit blurry to me) is nothing short of revolutionary, almost on par with the invention of the computer mouse. Yes, some of the elements within the package are similar to tools available elsewhere, but just because you have four cursors on your keyboard, doesn't mean you have a mouse. The package is a whole deal -- it's the package.
It's revolutionary because it has fundamentally changed the way I interface with my computer, and how I think about, plan, and execute those interactions. I now routinely complete my normal work routine in less time (about 1/3 less) while all the time being more absorbed into the experience of doing that work. By making the work conform to me, and look and behave like I want it to, the experience is now pleasant.
So, I thank you, sincerely, for giving me the single most important upgrade to my computer in the past decade. For Free!
P.S. I would thank you with cash, but I'm unemployed and my student loans only let me thank them
