I'd come to rely on the main page for seeing things such as recent topics, popular topics, whether anything had been posted since my last visit, announcements, the friends list, visitor statistics, and the like. Even though it was annoying to have a seemingly pointless distraction from the forum at first, I suppose I learned to appreciate it...

Seeing the forum instead of a front page now seems slightly out of place, but I'm sure I'll get used to it in time. There will be other ways to view some of the information that is no longer present on the front page, I'm sure. I hope so, anyway.

We got rid of it because A) that version was badly coded B) the version that renders nicely isn't out yet C) It was a pain in the ass to maintain. Eventually we'll have something to display the recent topics on the front page. Just right now, nothing exists but portals to do that.
