I realise it may be too early to answer this but just in case...
Are compcomm (or whatever it becomes) official releases likely to be synchronised with compiz release or will there be maybe 2 or 3 compcomm releases in between compiz releases?

Have there been any releases? The whole Beryl project seemed to be going so well. new releases stable on two different distros with many different hardware configurations. Now it seems as if though every thing has come to an end.
Are there any working releases of what is called CompComm and is it improved over what beryl had to offer?

There is a testing"alpha" release that doesn't yet have all the functionality of Beryl. Although it
does/will have some function that Beryl doesn't have. You can find a way to install and test it,
in the Packages section of the forum. It will work with Beryl still installed and working.

Believe me, compcomm right now seriously owns beryl in every imaginable way, aside from one thing: lack of the 3D plugin and bottom cap, and transparent caps. But other than that, it's AWESOME.

agreed, when compComm (or whatever name is chosen) is released, it will be huge ! :D (theoretically :P)
speaking of releases, how will it be released ??
will plugins be released seperately as well as in the plugins-main, plugins-extra, plugins-unsupported, plugins-wip groups ??

From what I read, it seems to be planned to synchronize releases with compiz. I don't know David's answer on this, but he will likely accept it.
Only to mention - you can safely install compiz and try out all those new and improved versions of the plugins you used back with beryl. There is no application "compcomm" which offers you anything beryl did or compiz doesn't. The whole thing now called "compcomm" is an extension-pack to compiz and compiz is running very well already ... (even though it may be more difficult to get it running in some few cases).
Everyone can simply download and install all that new stuff. Only small step to take is compiling everything from source (i.e. compiz git version is needed for most things related to "compcomm"). But there is no need to be afraid of manual compilation - the sooner you try it, the sooner you'll learn it. You'll need to learn it anyway, somewhen ... (of course, only if you want the cool stuff ;)).
