can someone update the transparent cube patch to work with the newer versions of compiz, some packagers are hesitating to update the packages because of this. :?

You should have patience, code is changing and developers would be busy working on more important things, till then the packages available has almost all the features there are in latest compiz/compcomm git.
The sets of patches were written by roico and he is currently working very hard on screencast plugin so I wouldn't want him to take time out of that for this work. May be someone who understands cube plugins might want to give it a try.
Till there is substantial feature addition/improvements, bug fixes or a stable compiz release out, use the last packages, have patience or compile from git.
Cheers

just a small note, the patch you attached is only a (small) part of a whole patchset that is needed for transcube.
to make transcube work, you need to port all the 5 patches to current git.
The whole set of (old) patches can be found here:
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/c ... 02144.html (http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/compiz/2007-May/002144.html) and http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/c ... 02148.html (http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/compiz/2007-May/002148.html)
(patches 4 and 5 should be used from second link)
porting these patches to latest git shouldn't be that hard, maybe i'll do it soon... :)

Just wanted to update.
David pushed a new interface to core (CompWalker).
This interface was needed for transparent cube to work, which means i can now create new patches for cube, that don't require any more changes to core.
I will probably do it, so stay tuned :)
