These are the two features from beryl that i miss the most in compcomm :( : 3d windows and a transparent cube. I don't think they affect compcomm's usability but they relate with eye candy 8O and can atract a lot of more users to linux. I wish they will be included as fast as possible.
:?: There are two other things i can't understand at compcomm: first - fps is way smaller (30-120) than the one from beryl (400-500); another thing - i managed to start it two times. After this, when i try to start compcomm using the compiz --replace ccp --sm-disable & command.

The latest release of compcomm is very stable and works well.
You can add the Xeffects overlay to your Sabayon to get the
latest compcomm ebuilds. Uninstall the CompComm apps you
have installed and do a fresh install using the Xeffects overlay.
You will have to update your package.keywords to reflect the
changes.

As far as performance I don't see any degradation. You might want
to try and re-install your nvidia-driver. And don't forget to eselect it.

Well, these are really the only two tricky bits as you see - compiz is upstream and the cube plugin is -- upstream. The developers are getting around to having the transcube spec implemented (Which is something that 3D requires in order to function properly). If you REALLY want to transparent cube and 3D windows - you can get the 3D plugin like this

[code:ac8a4]git clone git://git.opencompositing.org/compcomm/plugins/3d[/code:ac8a4]

Get the patches from the mailinglist as said in the 'README' file

Apply them like this :
[code:ac8a4]patch -p0 /path/to/git/compiz/plugins/cube.c /path/to/what/ever/the/patches/name/is/here.patch[/code:ac8a4]

Give roico a PM if you want his patches for transcube

I can trasparent the cube! 8)
Just in compcomm's settings Desktop Cube->Choices uncheck the option Transparency Only on Mouse Rotate

But I can't do the 3d windows stuff either!

Also I can't make the cube smaller when rotating with Ctrl-Alt-Mouse button1!

With regard to your FPS being stuck in the 30-120 range, do you have ccsm->General Options->Sync to VBlank enabled? Make sure it isn't.

With the Benchmark plugin's frame limiter disabled, I can get about 370 FPS with CompComm, which isn't too different from what I was getting with Beryl.
