Hoping to add a full python/ruby/perl/bash interface to compiz so that non c coders can develop quick scripts to add useful features, hopefully break down the barriers between apps and the window manager. Also patiently waiting for input redirection and all the cool stuff that David and others will do with it.

Name, age and where do you come from?
RYX (pronounced like "ricks"), aka Rico Pfaus, 27 years old, living in Berlin ...

What do you do for a living?
I am a freelancer for website-design and other kind of Multimedia-projects. Sadly, I am more an artist than a businessman - so I always work too much and get too little payment ...

What are your skills/hobbies/interests?
I have starting coding Turbo Pascal as a child. Today, I am mainly coding in ActionScript (with scite and MTASC, cause I hate Flash under Wine), PHP, XML/XHTML. I also have some experience in C, C#, Java, Ruby and (Pure)Basic. I am also quite used to work with blender, gimp, inkscape and other designing-tools (the only thing I miss from windows: Photoshop). My work is my hobby. It needs a very serious reason to get me off my pc. The few moments I don't work I spend with my beloved girlfriend ...

What do you bring to the community?
I try my best to be a good moderator here, I offer to care for the website (or at least support design and development) and I am still working on an improved decorator (though I had not much time for that recently).

Other comments
I am a big fan of Linux and want to support the "movement". The friendlyness and communication among Linux users is one of the most outstanding aspects of Linux and is a great example for a "peaceful together", no matter where somebody is from. The Linux-world has given me a great and stable system for free for the past 5-6 years and I want to thank everyone involved.

(And I tend to talk too much ... :D)

I maintain an AMD64 Ubuntu repository, because IA32 rules the world :(.

What do you bring to the community?
I build Gandalfn's packages for AMD64, and sometimes catch problems with his build-deps :). I'd like to code more, time permitting.

I campaign tirelessly against KDEisms. Gnome is the way and the light, and all misguided KDE users must be converted, by the sword if necessary!

Hi guys,

I was a huge compiz supporter back when quinn and them had their version. As of late I find beryl tedious and so I joined the true compiz. I also didn't like the responses I got back when I used to complain about how unstable beryl was. That pissed me off the most. Anyways, I think i'll stick with compiz.

James Daniel Smith, age 24, Edmonton Alberta Canada

Student, University of Alberta

Skills: Nunchucks, PHP (Intermediate), HTML, CSS, Javascript(Beginner), MySQL(Intermediate), Linux (Advanced), UI efficiency (not just critical, actually considerate...I prefer Kiosk to Gconf and that should be enough said from both a users and engineers perspective), and I can dress myself almost every day of the week.

Hobbies: Linux, Unified Field Theory, dictating to open-source projects and companies what I'd like to see done from my comfortable chair with no arms.

What do you bring to the community?

Web site design and input, and hopefully down the road a little help in designing the Compiz (yes, Compiz, not Comquinn or Beryl) UI and possibly some input on new features; a artists work is never done as he's constantly striving for efficiency and the most expressive and efficient way to get a point across. Interface design is art. (Insert something about Apple's multi-colored forbidden fruit here and the fine Mona Lisa)

Beyond that, I obviously help manage the web assets of the Compiz project and its community - such as this forum. I do some Python and Ruby programming on the side. I'm very proud to be a co-developer of the Dieu project.

I'm also a big reader. I've read many of the classics, and am making it a point to read the one's I have not.

Age, name and where do you come from?
Alyssa Hung, 27, Ontario, Canada.

What do you do for a living?
Parts returns processing at a consumer electronics company.

What skills do you bring to the community?
The ability to consistently exceed the (former) 5000-character posting limit. ;)

I like to help people. On this forum, that involves offering technical support, sometimes highly technical support about subjects about which I could only speculate prior to research, offering insight into other people's ideas, livening up discussions that never got off the ground, and tidying up the posts in the FAQ forum.

The wiki may eventually supplant the articles that used to belong in the FAQ forum, though, so I expect I'll be helping with that too. I'm involved in structuring the wiki, as well. :) I'm very concerned with eloquence and clarity in language, so I hope you'll find it a pleasure to read.

What else? I contribute daily builds to the x86_64 branch of nesl247's Compiz Fusion git repository for Arch Linux. I help people determine whether their problems are actually bugs, and file my own detailed bug reports. I like to keep our guests and regulars entertained on IRC.

What are your hobbies/interests?
I am the administrator of my significantly Linux-dominant home network, with a dash of Windows VMs mixed in for flavour.

I like taking photographs, but I don't take pictures of people. Rather, pictures of lighting conditions, lighting arrangements, objects, and scenery are much more appealing to me. I've been told that I have an artistic eye for portraying ordinary objects from fascinating perspectives.

I have six vase-shaped candles (complete with artificial flowers and soil) in different combinations of colour, which I rearrange to match the mood. I change the theme on my computers quite frequently, too, to flow with the seasons, the atmosphere, and random flickers of inspiration.

I used to be a proof-reader and part-time Japanese-to-English translator for TouhouWiki. My work has made it into English-patched versions of the Touhou game series.

Other comments
My interests tend to change a lot. I often look back at chat logs and forum posts from a year ago and muse about how much I've changed. Hearing, "You haven't changed," from an old friend would be like... An insult, or something. XD

I am almost certain to edit every post I make at least once a short time after posting it.

Fyda
August 15th, 2007, 07:13 PM
Age: 19
Name: Wendy Lin (but I largely go by "Fyda", which I prefer)
Country: Canada (although I was born in Taiwan)

What do you do for a living? I'm entering my 3rd year as a Linguistics major.

What skills do you bring to the community? Hrm. This is asking me to boast, and I find that somewhat hard to do, especially as I'm not a programmer -- just a, er, enthusiastic user. ;)

Well, let's see... I'm a member of the Support Team, which (as I see it) means I am one of the designated Answerers of Questions, Cleaners-Up of Threads, and Occasional Assistants to the Admin. I frequent #compiz-fusion, and occasionally do a little copy editing or testing, if it's asked of me. All of this is an honour and a pleasure, and I only hope that my efforts are satisfying to those whom I serve (that is, the users!).

So far, I've only written one significant guide (the one for compiling from GIT on Ubuntu Feisty), with a lot of help from others (which would make me more of a presenter than an author, in my view). I hope to be more involved with the upcoming wiki and the blog, as well as helping out on the bugtracker and wherever else I can. I'm also on the team for gavintlgold's FusionCast blog.

What are your hobbies/interests? I'm aspiring to have a good grasp of at least five languages (besides English and Mandarin), so that I can be a flexible translator and author -- perhaps even a language instructor/tutor, someday. Additionally, I would love to be a technical writer for products that are sold internationally, because I like to help people, like to write descriptions, like to figure out how things work, and have read some astoundingly unintelligible product manuals. :D

I feel it is very useful to have at least some basic knowledge of several languages, particularly on forums like these. Not everyone is a native speaker of English, so I often see people posting direct translations of idioms or structures that don't make much sense in English; it really helps when I can translate them back into the poster's original language and figure out what s/he meant. Sometimes I even try to phrase my English responses so that they'll still make sense after going through a machine translator (because I actually consider that possibility :D)! And, of course, the more languages I can read, the more sources of information I can tap into.

On the slightly nerdier side, I'm interested in the structure and development of language (not just languages), which is why I'm majoring in Linguistics, probably focusing on syntax or semantics. I actually like analysing grammar. xD

Despite my academic dedication to language(s), computers are still my most time-consuming hobby. This might explain why I've spent so much of my time here -- long enough to end up with such a commitment to the project. ;) Besides those two interests, I'm an amateur dabbler in drawing and painting, messing around with an electronic piano, sometimes trying to compose music in a sequencer, and occasionally getting mad flashes of inspiration for fiction and essays (which never reach completion). When I can find the time to, I look for books to devour. (I can enjoy most genres, but mind-numbingly saccharine romance novels are a no-go.)

Other comments: I'm in the Pacific time zone, so the vast majority of the world is hours ahead of me, time-wise. This usually means that everyone else goes offline (to sleep) before me, so I'm thankful for the terrible sleeping habits of some people who stay up till, say, 5:00am. Gives me company. ;)

What do you do for a living?
IT manager for a prepress, printing, and development firm in New Jersey.

What are your Skills/hobbies/interests?
I read, a lot... I enjoy computers... Seeing what I can make them do. I use linux as my primary desktop machine (Feisty at the moment), but I spend a lot of free time experimenting with other distributions and other alternative operating systems.

What do you bring to the community?
Support. That's mostly it. I monitor these boards regularly and can often be found on #compiz-fusion and #beryl helping people out. I've been using linux for almost 10 years now, on most common types of consumer hardware. I've been using 3D acceleration on ATI and nvidia hardware since the utah-glx days, and regularly pull and test the latest code for whatever project interests me, so I have plenty of experience testing software, reporting bugs, and resolving problems.

Freelance web application developer. I started programming (Yay BASIC!) when I was 6 and loved it! It kind of made sense to me to do what I love.

What are your Skills/hobbies/interests?
Skills... HTML/CSS/JavaScript/PHP/relational databases, my C is coming back into use thanks to Compiz. on the contrary, whenever I observe someone using Windows
Hobbies... Well recently, Compiz! I've used Linux as my sole OS for almost 4 years. I don't miss Windows--AT ALL. It's always amusing to watch people in airports/bus terminals/train stations struggling with Windows based PCs.
Interests... Recently, what interests me most is grabbing a beer and sitting on the patio with my notebook. Mech anime, older movies (pre 2000), going for hikes with my wife.

What are your Skills/hobbies/interests?
Well, i don't have any friends to hang out with. So playing around with my desktop is what i do most of my sparetime. About skills, i know HTML. But i want to learn how to program, make games on my own and such. Next year i will go to a Media school, like a school about photographing and such things. Maybe TV news too, like a cameraguy or news reporter:D Wouldn't that be cool? Anyway i'm not mush of a interesting person, i tell you. Not at the moment at least.

A new computer would be great. Plus better english and a really big harddrive wouldn't hurt. Sometimes when i speak in english i talk like Yoda. Maybe Yoda is my dad, who knows? A harddrive on 4gb and 250mb of ram on a stationary computer isn't mush, but i can live with it. Well, i also want to add that i really hate my nickname:)

Hello all!
My name is coz and i am living in US Pennsylvania, and you really dont want to know how old i am but suffice to say i am the oldest of the bunch here :)
I remember when we were debating the creation of dirt so ..... I voted "No" on that issue lol..mm a lot of good that vote did me lol.

I have a small business for installations, repairs, etc for residential and corporate clients, although the corporate end is both slower and a pain. I prefer systems integrations,

I am a certified interpreter for the deaf.. speak no language well :) including english ...I have my degree in fine arts and am a painter when I find the time.. was communication specialist for the board of education for about 5 years,, surprisingly!.. I have also done forensic reconstruction of sculls ..<< wish there was a decent position for that one. Was accepted for a grant by the National endowment to do research on aquisition of cadavers from 1900 to the present, unfortunately the presidency changed as did the national endowment :(
Was a jazz/rock musician for 15 years on the road...now just an Italian guy that loves to eat lol

Other than being on support for compiz fusion.. I have done the snow textures and splash screens for both beryl svn, ( the final splash screens) and the first release of compiz fusion.

I am the first to admit that my graphics and support contributions to this project have been very minor...even with that , I am honored to be a part of this mainly because of the people involved. I have met, for the most part, only bright, easy going, sometimes quite talkative, individuals, but all of them are worth the effort of getting to know. I would even have them over for lunch or dinner<<< that is NOT an invitation lol
adamk..crdlb..isthatall..Fyda..jupiter1tx..amphi.. .ardya..the list goes on.. all of whom have been more than friendly and accepting of this old guy !:) Thanks to you all!

What are your Skills/hobbies/interests?
The only computer skill I have is the ability to follow the abundance of knowledge a great community like this provides. As far as hobbies go I would have to say linux, compiz, music, recycling, reading, LOST, refinishing furniture, getting high on life, getting high safely in the privacy of my own home (norml for life) ice skating, hiking and trying to convince people in daily conversation that the world would be a better place if everybody got high and watched Koyaanisquatsi followed buy a hefty dose of Arrested Development RIP!

Hi, I'm Gregor Mir I come from Slovenia and I'm 18 years old

I'm studying economy, don't like it -.-

I actually don't have any hobbies...

I'm new in the Ubuntu/Linux world, or whatever it's called
I actually managed to install some programs, downloaded 3 songs and a movie, I was searching for the command line like for 10hrs lol and I think i messed everything a little bit up because I used the Terminal so many times and tried so many things and then I saw Beryl and was amazed, tried to enable the effects, tried to fix it with various guides with no sucess.
So if there is a brainiac out there that could help me with the basic programs that would make my life a bit, just A BIT, easier, thx!

Hi! I would like to do a little introducing to myself. I'm new to the forums, obviously, but would love to develop for Compiz-Fusion. I'm a Computer Science major and have been programming for roughly 8-9 years but never anything involving OpenGL or anything of the sort. If you have any suggestions as for a place for me to start please let me know!

And check out my website, www.gamezombie.tv
