I just talked to Thunderbird "nvclock dev" concerning G80 support
so we can monitor temps and adjust fan speed and
here is what he had to say......

Further if a card uses a ADT7473 sensor I wouldn't recommend to manually change the fanspeed although NVClock allows it. The reason is that this sensor controls the fanspeed based on the temperature.

as he has stated fan speed is controlled by the sensor
BUT nvidia driver fan speed adjustment doesn't work
with any of the past 4 driver release.....
because of this i see a 12c temp increase in Linux from my
winxp temps which i control fan speed with rivatuner because
the feature doesn't work with the nvidia windows driver either

temp is right now at 61c which is really not bad at all but i really
prefer to idle at 48c-51c so that load temp never reaches 75c
