[SOLVED] beryl install problem on XGL and ATI 9600, feisty

the question is:
- why? i know the core and the plugin is different version, but in howto it said that i have to downgrade the beryl-core.
- when i select window manager to beryl, i cant see the windows header (max,min,close)

You've a poisonous mix of packages in your system.
I would suggest to do the following:

- remove all beryl* and emerald* packages:

[code:c2d45]sudo apt-get remove emerald*[/code:c2d45]

if you installed packages with dpkg instead of apt, then
[code:c2d45]sudo dpkg --remove beryl*[/code:c2d45]
[code:c2d45]sudo dpkg --remove emerald*[/code:c2d45]

then check which repository are you using and reinstall beryl from the scratch.
There's a "unofficial beryl how-to" here in the forum, by AdamK. Follow the instructions there.

If you need to upgrade to the last 0.3.0 version of Beryl, you can install the working version mentioned in the how-to, check that it works, and only *after* that, try to update through the trevino repository.
In order to use the trevino repository you need to add the lines:

to your /etc/apt/sources file.
After adding those lines, you must run

and cross your fingers.
If something gets wrong, then remove those lines, remove again beryl and emerald, and re-install the working version following again the AdamK how-to.

It appears that you're using a mixture of beryl packages from different repositories with different versions. For example:

I suggest apt-get removing anything beryl related, double checking your repository (perhaps stick with just the ubuntu.beryl-project.org repo) and then reinstalling beryl.
