I'm not too sure if this is possible in PhpBB but I think that due to the *almost* flooding of the beryl forums with common problems like "I get a white cube AHHHH!" or "Beryl wont start" or "My xServer died! AHHHHH!" I think that in the Q&A section we should have a subsection called problems. In this problems section, when you post new topic there should be a webpage on the "Post a new topic page" which looks something like this:
CompComm not working? Here is a guidline to posting problems
1 : Read the FAQ.
Chances are that you problem is a common one and is addressed on the FAQ already. Check the "Common Problems" section to see if your problem is there (On "there" put (a href http://wiki.opencompositioning.org/path ... on/oh/noes (http://wiki.opencompositioning.org/path/to/problems/section/oh/noes)))
If you just want to figure out where to use or get a certain function, check out our how-to's section (On "how-to's" link (a href http://wiki.opencompositing.org/path/to ... iny/guides (http://wiki.opencompositing.org/path/to/howtos/with/shiny/guides)))
2: If you cannot address your problem through these means then follow these steps to comprehensively reporting a problem.
a) Post what your problem is in your own description
b) Post a screenshot. A good way to do this is thorugh our forums own image uploader or if it is too big then use a free service called "ImageShack" (On "ImageShack" (a href www.imageshack.us (http://www.imageshack.us)). When presented with the options for links to your image, copy and paste the "Hotlink for forums 1" line in the text box
c) Post any applicable terminal outputs or code. If you have problems with CompComm itself then post the output of [code:a2dd8]compiz --replace gconf[/code:a2dd8] if you use GConf to control your settings [code:a2dd8]compiz --replace ini[/code:a2dd8] if you use INI to control your settings [code:a2dd8]compiz --replace bset[/code:a2dd8] If you use the LibBS settings manager to control settings.
Then in a service called "Pastebin" (On "Pastebin" (a href http://pastebin.ca) post the output of this :
[code:a2dd8]glxinfo[/code:a2dd8]
[code:a2dd8]cat ./bsettings/Default.ini[/code:a2dd8]
[code:a2dd8]cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf[/code:a2dd8]
Paste the link that pastebin give you like this
My Glxinfo
pastebin.ca/XXXXX (Where XXXXX is the paste number)
My Xorg.conf
pastebin.ca/XXXXX
My Settings file
pastebin.ca/XXXXX
3 : If your post gets no replies, bump it ONCE. If it still gets no replies then jump on IRC at #beryl and #beryl-dev to speak to the developers directly. For those who don't know, IRC is a sort of instant messaging system which requires an IRC client to participate. For windows there is MiRC, For Mac OS X there is Colloquy and for linux there is X-Chat and Konversation which is included in KDE.
Posting errors like this saves a lot of time by the developers and a lot of time for you to get the problem solved. This allows us to address more errors and put more cool stuff into CompComm ;-)
