Hi

I have just installed Ubuntu Feisty on my Sony Vaio PCV-W1 Series desk top

It has a 2.8 Ghz processor and an in-built graphics card

Ubuntu auto detected this as the following:

Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 65x/M650/740 PCI/AGP VGA Display Adapter

It has loaded the SIS driver..........and is running in "1280x768" mode

When I was running Vista graphics and 3D Rendering was fab....

But when trying to run Beryl and the very best I get a blank white screen ... which in all fairness does seem to rotate!!!

At the very worse loading Beryl crashes the session and reverts to login..

Can anybody suggest what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

Your SiS graphics chipset does not support AIGLX. You can *try* to use Xgl, but I'm doubtful that will work either. Here are some directions on setting up beryl + Xgl on Feisty:

Just my frigging luck

Having spent weeks loading Ubuntu and going through the horrors relating to the Upgrade to 'Feisty Fish' now I find that Beryl ain't going to work...

I guess it's back to Vista .... BUM!!!

I didn't say it wouldn't work, just that I was doubtful it would :-) Setting up Xgl isn't that difficult if you want to try.

OK... I will give it a go

Bearing in mind that I am new to this and some of the jargon is a bit daunting can you suggest an easy method on how I could try to get this to work?

Thanks
