View Full Version : Beryl crashes my kde & leaves me in gnome(metacity)

I'm having a lot of difficulties in getting beryl to work for me.
I'm running opensuse 10.2 kernel version 2.6.18.8-0.1-xen on an average box with one gig
of memory and an ati 9600 Radeon(rv360 4152) card with 3D acceleration enabled . I installed beryl using yast from opensuse's repo.
So I have installed,
aquamarine, beryl-core, beryl-dbus, beryl manager, beryl-plugins, beryl settings, emerald, emerald-themes,
opensuse-xgl—settings and compiz.
When I boot with beryl turned on, I get the windows slicing away and when I get to the desktop it flickers for a secound or two then settles on metacity as a window manager. I have the choice of four window managers. Beryl, compiz, metacity and kdwn. I've been trying to get this working for a while now unfortunately I'm still a newbie with linux. Although reasonably comfortable using the command line and editing files.
The real pain the bum is that I have a live Knoppix dvd that runs beryl really well. So I hope I can get some help with it.
Here is my xorg.conf

I'm not a hardware/driver expert, but I have an ATi Radeon 9550 (detected by the system as a 9600) with the fglrx driver, and the "windows slicing away" (a diagonal wipe motion, right?) is the dreaded sign of the video driver not working and 3D acceleration/direct rendering being disabled.

I had to jump through hoops to get things working with this video card, actually, including recompiling the kernel with the fglrx module. Have you already done that?
