I need to replace my ATI x800 pro for one more friendly to beryl. Is anybody using the nvidea 8800 series?
Thxs.

Note: I'm new to this forum. I'm also new to opencom. I installed beryl in my laptop (ThinkPad x40) a week ago and I love it (suse 10.2). I have suse also running in amd fx-55 but that ATI card did not work very well in the previous version of suse (10.1) and I will replace it so I can install beryl in that system.

Thxs. I understand. The two previous post indicated a good experience with the 8800 series so this weekend I will get one. Thanks again for your help.

What's up with your X800? I've got an X700 Mobility, and beryl works very nicely with the r300 driver.

You can use the opensource r300-driver, which IS slower than fglrx, but does work with AIGLX. http://www.swisstech.net/xorg-ati-3d-beryl/

Apparently ATI is rewriting the OpenGL driver from the ground up.

Yes. Xfx 8800GTX
At 1100 fps, it's much faster than needed -- I'm still running Beryl -- but it plays well with Halo II on the Vista partition so I'm fully justified in having spent so much on a stupid gfx card, right?

Guys, thxs for your help. I thrash the ATI x800 pro and I got a nvidia GTS 8800 320MB. Unbelievable!. I use beryl with nvidia only. Very fast response, no crashes. All work as designed :-)
Now I have the 2 machines I use the most with beryl: this one with the nvidia adapter and the laptop (TP x40) with the intel chip.
No way to get back to the old 2d desktop.
I'll be back with questions but I am having a blast with beryl.
Have a good weekend
